ACTION STEPS - With your credit union
- Activate grassroots Don’t Tax My Credit Union (DTMCU) efforts: Take action yourself and encourage others to protect the credit union tax status using this grassroots-focused website. DTMCU resources for credit unions are available on the America’s Credit Union website.
- Engage in the Member Activation Program (MAP): If you haven’t already signed up for MAP, take action and check out the resources available to help you send personalized emails to staff, board and members on both the credit union difference and the Don’t Tax My Credit Union issue.
- Run Project Zip Code (PZC): If you have not updated PZC in 12 months, please make plans to run this safe, secure program now. PZC bolsters credit union impact data and further reinforces with lawmakers how many people in their district would be affected if credit unions were taxed.
- Support the National Advocacy Fund (NAF): This credit union tax fight requires resources, and supporting NAF showcases the credit union difference in this fight. You can see some of the DTMCU digital messaging already in circulation, along with the DTMCU website, with more to come.
ACTION STEPS - With lawmakers
- Continue meeting with lawmakers and bring your credit union stories of people helping people.
- Focus on the credit union difference and credit union tax status in those meetings. While other issues may come up, make sure lawmakers know that protecting the credit union tax status is your top priority and ask that they stand with us.
- Along with information provided by your league, we have resources to help you in your meetings. Issue handouts and resources are located in the Resource Library.
ACTION STEPS - With social media and outreach
- Use social media to amplify the #DontTaxMyCreditUnion message. We have a social media toolkit in the Member Activation Program (MAP) resource center (password protected) with graphics and messaging ready to go.
- Share in your local media. There’s a press kit in the MAP resource center on the credit union difference, with more DTMCU resources being added. This can help with op-eds, letters to the editor, and encouraging credit union coverage in your local media.
